Computerized determination of fatigue life is the ideal tool for reducing development time and minimizing costs. It also enables the analysis of the relative merits of components or assemblies and allows weak points to be identified.
Computerized simulation requires not only the calculation of loads over time using MBS models or measurement data, but also the imaging of localized (usually multi-axial) forces and their assessment in terms of material ageing under cyclical stress conditions. We measure the loads that occur as well as the resulting local stress and identify the damage as well as the life-span.
In order to minimize damage, we implement optimization procedures such as the shape optimizations in TOSCA. This can significantly lengthen fatigue life, particularly in the case of multi-axial stresses. We have experience using the tools MSC.Fatigue, LMS/FALANCS and FEMFAT.
Bench testing combined with our expertise in the area of fatigue limits enables us to verify the assumptions in the simulation model as well as the key development stages of the component.
