Stone Chip Simulators

The horizontal stone impact simulator can cause stone chip damage to components in defined and reproducible ways. You have a wide range for varying the type and amount of test medium and the impact velocity. It is guaranteed that each individual particle of the test medium selected impacts at the velocity specified regardless of shape, size and weight. This is of great advantage, for example, when the abrasive material consists of different-sized particles. Solid materials such as sand, grit, gravel or similar substances are best used as abrasive material.

The two simulators specially developed by IABG can be used for testing, among others, axle springs, stabiliser bars, shock absorbers, parts mounted on axles, fronts of road and rail vehicles, car body parts, fuel tanks, gearboxes, oil sumps, windscreens and wheelset axles. Our simulators can also be used for simulating the impact of hailstones on wind turbine rotor blade tips and photovoltaic modules.
