On track for success: IABG forms new subsidiary

In order to even better utilise its potential in a growing market in future, IABG has hived off its "Life Sciences" business area to form a new company. The company, known as IABG Life Sciences Solutions GmbH (IABG-LSS), has been operating as an independent enterprise since April 2004. IABG-LSS develops software products that support the approval of drugs, agrochemicals and biotechnology products and, in particular, significantly reduce the time needed for the approval procedure.

"This is precisely the right time to go it alone. The market is crying out for new and fast solutions for approval of life sciences products,“ says Andreas Suchanek, one of the two managing directors of IABG-LSS. And quite rightly. In a "lean state" with "efficient administration“ there is no need for reams and reams of paperwork previously required for the approval of pharmaceutical products or agrochemicals. Drawn-out administrative and approval procedures have no place in a time where "time-to-market" has become the critical success factor for international enterprises. "Quality and reliability are still our success factors, and are reflected in all our turnkey products and the values of our employees,“ continues Tore Bergsteiner, also a managing director of IABG-LSS and responsible for IABG's "Life Sciences" business area since the mid-1990s.

Preparing extensive paper dossiers, transporting and filing them requires huge amounts of time and high costs. Finding information is a painstaking process and amending or updating individual content is extremely time-consuming. Help comes in the form of electronic documents. Above all, industry appreciates the much faster processing and significantly lower costs. The approval authorities benefit from further advantages – for example, automatic search functions, user-friendly navigation through a dossier using TOCs, bookmarks and hyperlinks, the drafting of reports is greatly simplified by "copy & pasting" and connecting to official internal databases represents no problem at all.

The business area was spun off from IABG for strategic reasons. IABG-LSS is a classical product business. "The successful marketing of products requires marketing and sales structures different to those implemented at IABG,“ stated Thomas Dittler, managing director of IABG. The need for speed and flexibility in this business is extremely high. The saying "the fast eat the slow" applies. Companies need to react to market changes immediately. Thanks to its streamlined organisation, short channels, fast decisions and simple administration processes, IABG-LSS can achieve the speed and flexibility it needs. At the same time, IABG-LSS benefits from having a strong parent company behind it. IABG holds a majority interest in IABG Life Sciences Solutions GmbH. IABG has been developing customised software products for years. The successful development of business shows that the employees and partners of IABG-LSS are on the right track. The spin-off is also expected to help further improve its market profile. In any event, customers are reacting positively to this step and will continue to trust in their established partner in future: Almost all existing contracts have already been transferred to the new IABG-LSS. IABG-LSS can already reference five of the world's ten largest plant protection manufacturers as its customers, and is thus developing a base of first class, satisfied customers. In addition to the long-term consolidation of its position on the German market, IABG-LSS is also looking to expand its business into Europe, the US and Japan as part of its growth strategy.
