IABG methodically implements the flat track tyre test stand into the parameter generation process

Driving dynamics simulation results today face highest requirements regarding model accuracy and maximum stress levels. Hence complex handling tyre models are used which have to be parametrised based on highly precise tyre measurements and which help to represent the driving dynamics of a tyre.

IABG methodically implements a modern flat track tyre test stand into the parameter generation process - from test procedure preparation up to parameter alignment.

Compared to conventional tyre measurement modern flat track tyre test stands offer significant advantages regarding the accuracy of representation of surface contact, the possible area of application and the flexibility of the test procedure organisation. Both car and tyre manufacturers have complied with the trend to shift complex tyre development loops from real on-the-road testing to virtual prototypes and simulation. High model accuracy in particular of the tyre model necessary for the analysis of the tyre’s driving dynamics and comfort, is presupposed and could not have been sufficiently ensured so far by conventional tyre measuring procedures.

Only by using an appropriate conversion and evaluation software the flat track tyre test stand turns into a high performance development platform. It represents the link between measuring raw data, simulation and tyre development. IABG accordingly developed a modular program environment under ”MATLAB“, which features a graphic interface. The software uses both test control files (input) and the generated measuring data files (output).

Using the state-of-the-art flat track tyre test stand is connected to the vision to provide the vehicle development process with a “ready to use” tyre with the required driving and handling characteristics at an early stage.
