IABG and CAM GmbH cooperate in test management

The Test Management Connectivity (TMC) software is a web-based management tool that has been tailored as a special solution for the aeronautics, space and automotive industries for development and certification tests. TMC integrates and centralises previously disparate data, applications and resources and brings various processes that are necessary to perform aeronautics tests into a logical sequence. The flexible and efficient workflow solution can be seamlessly integrated into existing standard software used in test and quality assurance processes. In this way, TMC will make a decisive contribution to reducing costs in test engineering.

Once the design of an aircraft and its specifications have been definitively established, the subsystems for operation of the aircraft are developed. With this new test management system, all flight tests and resources can be planned in detail – whether in the context of ground tests, computer simulations or real flights. The data from the individual test sequences are then combined and made available for project tracking and the approval procedure.

While the CAM GmbH pursued the management perspective using a top-down approach in realising its solution, the bottom-up style of IABG is characterised by its higher level of detail. The software modules that were developed separately and are now combined will create significant synergies in the two companies. By the end of the year, this software which is being jointly offering should map 95 percent of flight test operations.

With CAM, part of the CS Group, and IABG, two of the big players in space and aeronautics have joined forces and supplement each other in an ideal fashion. "As a leading European simulation and test house, IABG is an important partner for CAM", says Michael Schaub, Managing Director at CAM GmbH of the cooperation. IABG is renowned in the sector for the development, setting up and operation of state-of-the-art test facilities for the aeronautics, space and automotive industries. Recently, the company proved itself by performing structural tests for the world’s largest civil aircraft, the Airbus A380.

In supporting the Saab Gripen flight tests in Granada in August 2005, the new IABG Flight Test unit demonstrated its professionalism the first time round. This success is not least due to decades of experience at Dornier, which is where the roots of IABG flight tests lie. At the beginning of 2005, equipment and personnel, as well as expertise and specialised software developments were taken over.
