IABG supports Hessen in launch of digital radio for authorities

In the future, PSOs should be able to communicate with each other using radio telephony and radio data transmission. IABG will support the federal state of Hessen in the introduction of the new radio network.

The interior ministers and senators at Federal Government and Federal State level jointly agreed to roll out digital voice and data radio for public safety organisations (PSOs), a nationwide joint network quickly. Migration to the new system is to begin in mid-2006. PSOs include police authorities of the federal states, professional and volunteer fire brigades, and emergency services, non-governmental organisations such as the Red Cross, as well as other aid organisations like the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief. The new digital network will replace the analogue radio networks that have been mostly used separately by the organisations up to now. In this connection, the control centres will also be modernised and integrated.

After the successful radio supply calculations for the federal states of Hamburg, Bavaria and Hessen in 2005, IABG gained another successful acquisition in the public-sector segment. IABG has been commissioned to advise Hessen’s Department of the Interior and Sport in the introduction of digital radio for Hessian PSOs, gaining the mandate against many competitors. Within the framework of the project, IABG will provide extensive technical, organisational and business support for the planning, realisation and operation of the new radio network.

The decisive factor in the IABG obtaining the mandate was its extensive competence in the area of planning, constructing and operating fixed and mobile communication networks, as well in the subject area of control centres. In this respect, IABG stands out because of its comprehensive cross-system approach. IABG’s many years of experience of implementing projects with other public authority institutions also acted in its favour.

The launch of a common digital radio network is another important step for strengthening internal security in the Federal Republic of Germany. The IABG has always felt committed in working towards this goal. As a result, the technology company is already currently working on further solutions to complement digital radio for PSOs. The abbreviation <link internal-link internen link im aktuellen>HiMoNN® (Highly Mobile Network Node) stands for an application for a mobile ad-hoc network. Within this type of network, mobile devices (e.g. mobile phones, mini-computers or laptops) can connect with each other instantly without the need for a superordinate infrastructure.
