With the VTRC (Variable Test Rig for Resilient Components) IABG has developed and patent-protected a new, energy-efficient test stand taking into account the changing market requirements in the field of qualification of springs and stabilisers. With Audi AG, IABG has now for the first time convinced a vehicle manufacturer to integrate their latest test stand into its development and qualification strategy.
The major German automobile manufacturers and their suppliers have for many years trusted in IABG’s professional expertise in testing springs and stabilisers and in particular in their custom-made testing facilities. Over the past 20 years, more than 70 test stands could hence be sold to companies such as VW, Daimler, BMW, Thyssen Krupp, Mubea, Daewon, NHK and others.
IABG’s previously patented testing facilities use resonance technology and are designed for high test frequencies and very high load cycles, allowing for precise, extremely energy-efficient testing. These testing concepts for springs and stabilisers have been developed under mechanical and corrosive stress over years of cooperation with customers and are continuously being improved. Recently, however, test specifications of major manufacturers such as Audi, Daimler and BMW have focused particularly on corrosion. To realistically emulate these influences, a defined effect duration and thus a reduced test frequency are mandatory.
The necessary versatility and energy efficiency is guaranteed by using an electro-hydraulic actuators concept in the newly developed VTRC. Thanks to modular design and implementation options for test assemblies, a wide range of customer-specific test requirements for spring elements can thus be covered.
With this innovation, IABG expands its portfolio in the field of chassis components qualification by another innovative test stand in the automotive business segment
