Frequency Management

Liberalisation and deregulation in the IT and telecommunications sectors are leading to an expanded range of mobile services being offered by public and private network and service providers. This is causing a dramatic increase in the number of mobile installations and systems as well as of the necessary frequency bandwidths. In relation to cellular-based subscriber access using 3G, 4G, WIMAX, WLAN etc., demand will continue to grow.

The frequency spectrum is a limited resource that cannot be increased. Interference-free operation therefore requires the careful coordination of users (for example, radio, point-to-point radio systems, ground stations for satellites and so on) and system providers. Furthermore, care must also be taken to prevent different systems from interfering with each other and that the radio waves conform to the recommended values for electromagnetic environmental compatibility (EMC).

As was demonstrated by the successful rollout of GSM or the less successful rollouts of UMTS and IRIDIUM, market success is essentially determined by the availability of the end devices. This diversity of cellular-based network types requires ultra-modern, powerful and interoperable end devices. Only by maintaining a high integration density or changing over to software-based architectures you can enable these devices to meet the very high demands placed on them.

Our services

  • National and international planning and coordination of services and frequencies, for example, for radio transmitters, satellite ground stations or satellite systems:
    • Planning of transmitters based on digital terrain models and the creation of radio forecasts
    • Registration and coordination procedures conforming to ITU and RegTP (German Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Posts)
  • Optimised resource utilisation according to technical, technological and economic points of view
  • Strategy development regarding the spectrum utilisation from a business and technical point of view, while minimising the risk to the general population
  • Coordination negotiations in the interest of our customers including the issuing of protection claims
  • The provision of measurements independently of manufacturers and providers
    • Field measurements
    • EMC measurements
    • EMCE (implication of electromagnetic radiation for the environment) measurements

on site or in our accredited measurement laboratory

  • Support in the design of new multi-mode/multi-band radio equipment on the basis of software-based architecture:
    • Specification and development of wave forms and protocols
    • Execution of field tests
    • Embedding in existing infrastructure and migration strategies, while taking into account commercial factors and interoperability issues

Benefits for you

  • An optimised network architecture with respect to business and investment costs and the resulting investment security that also takes into account (frequency) regulations, commercial and technological factors and safeguards your interests.
