Magnetic Field Measurements
The permanent presence of the earth's magnetic field makes this an important physical parameter
from which influences on aerospace activities can be expected. Both for the attitude control
of satellites and for the numerous scientific experiments for research of our solar system,
magnetic fields play an essential role.
In the Magnetic Field Simulation Facility at IABG, magnetic fields are measured very precisely and generated
by means of a three-axial coil system which consists of 12 coils with a side length of 15 m.
EMC Tests
Like many other complex systems, satellites are also integrated into an overall system
from a number of sub-systems and components. Each electronic sub-unit becomes a source of
interference by transmitting the internally generated signals and similarly by picking up
interference from adjacent sub-systems to an interference source (intra-EMC). At the same
time, the electro-magnetic ambient conditions at the operations site, i.e. in space, must
be taken into consideration.
The electro-magnetic compatibility limits interference emissions and at the same time supports a minimum amount
of immunity against interference. Both conditions together reduce the mutual interaction to a degree which ensures
the functionality of the system in all operational states at its place of operation.
Emission and immunity measurement can be carried out in a large EMC absorber room (10.5 m x 7 m x 8 m) and
in a medium EMC anechoic chamber (5.4 m x 4.3 m x 2.7 m). |
