In addition to the elimination of acute hazards, the remediation of contaminated sites today is the first step on the way to revitalising industrial wasteland and converting former military property. The central topics here are the question of liability and obtaining legal certainty for investors. Various interested parties have to be brought to a round table to settle their conflicts of interest. IABG takes on the role of moderator to achieve acceptable compromises.
Remediation procedures are still being developed today, but under different aspects than 10 years ago. Cost-effective procedures are in demand, for example in-situ technologies like DROP which we developed for remediation of oil pollution. By observing cost-benefit factors and through life-cycle impact assessment we will find ways for the cost-effective and environmentally efficient remediation of contaminated sites.
