Critical Infrastructures

Critical systems and networks must “function” properly in order to guarantee the welfare and health of the population, the functioning of economy, of public institutions, and potentially of the whole State. Such systems represent a particular target for threats, both now and in the future. These so called “critical infrastructures”, e. g.

  • water, energy and food supply
  • telecommunications
  • transport systems and
  • health authorities

are closely linked. They are extremely sensitive to disruption, and cascade effects are to be expected that render an exact forecast of events in the case of disruption impossible. IABG has been preparing for these problems since 1996. Since 1998, IABG, together with AKSIS, has been leading a network of interested and potentially affected branches from the public and private sectors, and research.

In order to gain a gradual understanding of these new phenomena, and to prepare appropriate protective and defence measures, we have developed a series of tools to be used in the

  • reconstruction of scenarios
  • simulation of complex, interlinked systems
  • implementation of planning exercises

These can be used to examine strategies and concepts and to evaluate concrete system solutions, as well as to train, instruct and provide further training for decision makers and deployment forces.Qualified risk analysis and strategic conceptual consultancy round off our portfolio of services designed to secure critical infrastructures.
