By linking up its exhibition stand with the police network of the federal state of Hesse, IABG set up a “virtual” operations centre for the first time ever. To this end, the <link internal-link internen link im aktuellen>mobile Ad-hoc-Netz HiMoNN was combined with a mobile satellite connection, which had been installed in a patrol car of the Hessian police force.
The police’s patrol car, which was located in the Public Sector Park within the outdoor arena of the exhibition centre, was able to use this satellite link and the Internet to access the network used by the police force. The vehicle was also equipped with a HiMoNN node, which served as the gateway to the satellite system and provided access to the mobile ad-hoc network. Also located in the outdoor arena was a robot from the company Robowatch, which was also equipped with a HiMoNN node. This allowed wireless data communication to be established with the police officers.
This enabled an end-to-end, secure communication chain to be set up from the robot via HiMoNN, satellite link/Internet, data network of the public safety organisations and via the Internet back to the exhibition stand, from where the robot’s image and sensor data could be received and displayed.
In real-life operations, a communication chain such as this would permit access to applications relevant for public safety organisations from all vehicles integrated via HiMoNN. The combined scenario presented by IABG demonstrated the possibility of implementing efficient and cost-effective data communication for a number of patrol vehicles in areas without UMTS/GSM coverage.
The operation scenario presented was met with great interest amongst the visitors to the IABG stand. These included high-profile guests such as the state secretary of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Mr August Hannig, who allowed himself to be shown the HiMoNN mobile high-performance network.
Besides HiMoNN, also other topics such as “IT security”, “Critical infrastructures”, “Government/state authorities networks” in addition to “Public safety organisations digital radio” and “Integrated control centres” provided a focal point of interest for visitors.
This year, over 6,000 companies from 77 different countries exhibited their products at Cebit. Attracting in excess of 480,000 guests and a contract volume of five billion euros, Cebit is recording consistently high rates of growth.
