Good ideas pay off: IABG receives ESA Integspace Award

With the “Integspace Award” the European Space Agency (ESA), the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e. V. (DLR) and MT Aerospace AG have created an incentive to promote the use of satellite navigation, satellite communication and earth observation. IABG successfully participated in the competition with a project sketch for the establishment of a “Test and Training Centre for Geo-Information and Satellite-Based Emergency Services (TT-GSat)”.

The objective of the idea submitted by IABG is to provide different rescue organisations with state-of-the-art technologies from the sectors of GNSS (global navigation satellite systems), SatCom and earth observation in the form of terminals, software and applications for testing, training and education purposes. This is to accelerate innovative cycles within rescue organisations, to allow practical production development and pave the way for the future use of these technologies.

This is the first year the Integspace Award was bestowed. The ceremony was held at the Bavarian Ministry for Economics, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology on 28 Feb. 2013. IABG, was distinguished as one of the three winners together with its project partners Fraunhofer IML, proTime and DIALOGIS. Dr. Stefan Baumann of the InfoCom division accepted the award on behalf of IABG.

The ESA Integspace Award distinguishes outstanding ideas for integrated applications and services that are based on existing space technologies. Its objective is to develop and effectively establish new and innovative space technology-supported services and applications for certain economic sectors, while integrating concrete users and/or user group requirements.
