IABG puts state-of-the art flat track tyre test stand into operation

In front of 40 invited guests, Prof. Schwarz, Chairman of the IABG Management Board, officially opened the test stand together with representatives from the first two customers to use the stand. In addition to the technical innovation and the good collaboration work, the extremely short implementation time, which at 16 months was two months shorter than the already ambitious target, was singled out for praise.

The only independent and freely accessible test stand in Europe is from now on available to automobile manufacturers and their suppliers for highly dynamic investigations of tyres. The Flat-Trac® III CT is used to perform precision measurements under stationary and dynamic operating conditions. These are of critical importance in the specification, verification and the evaluation of tyres at the highest level. The performance spectrum includes computation of characteristic lines, recording stationary and dynamic measurements, determination of tyre parameters, multi-body simulation and tyre model verification in full and partial vehicle models. IABG assumes responsibility for the operation of the system including implementation coordination, quality management and maintenance and servicing. Separate offices and assembly areas and stock rooms for several customers are attached to the test hall. These arrangements make it possible to guarantee the confidentiality required even when different clients are using the test stand at more or less the same time.

The flat track tyre test stand is operated under a user-sharing model. Up until now, two customers have been sharing the test stand under fixed annual time allocations. IABG has no doubt that further customers will be benefiting from this innovation in the near future.
