Ottobrunn/Neubiberg, 3 March 2026 – IABG and University of the Bundeswehr Munich (UniBw M) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement, further intensifying their long-standing collaboration. The aim of the partnership is to accelerate the development of security-relevant future technologies in a more effective and application-oriented manner.
Against the backdrop of a volatile global security environment – shaped by geopolitical tensions, hybrid threats and technological competition in areas such as AI, autonomous systems and space – both institutions are sending a clear signal: closer integration between science and industry is essential to sustainably safeguard Germany’s and Europe’s ability to act.
With decades of experience and in-depth expertise in the security domain, IABG represents strong industrial implementation capabilities and builds the bridge between research and real-world application. UniBw M contributes outstanding research in security and resilience, its innovative strength in the dual-use sector, and a strong network within the defense ecosystem to the partnership.
“With this partnership, we are combining scientific excellence and industrial implementation strength to shape Germany’s security in a sovereign and future-ready way,” said IABG CEO Prof. Schwarz.
The President of UniBw M, Prof. Kern, also emphasised the importance of the cooperation: “We are convinced that expanding joint research activities and targeted knowledge transfer with IABG will make a significant contribution to technological sovereignty and defense capabilities.”
The cooperation will focus on strategic technology fields such as secure cloud infrastructures, AI assurance, multi-orbit satellite communications and complex systems engineering. Innovation partnerships as well as the integration of start-ups and new stakeholders are also planned.
