IABG puts new vibration test stand with climatic chamber into operation

IABG’s latest LiMAS (Light Multi Axis Shaker) test stand was successfully put into operation in January 2015. This multi axis (6 DOF) test stand for vibration tests was presented to our customers on occasion of the official start-up in the context of an exclusive demonstration on 26 Feb. 2015.

With LiMAS a hydraulic high frequency simulation platform with a maximum pay load of 1,000 kg has been realised. The test stand is a hydraulic hexapod system with six degrees of freedom and was designed for vibration tests with up to 200 Hz and acceleration speeds of up to 130 m/s². The system was implemented in a climatic chamber, ensuring that mechanical tests can be combined with environmental simulations at temperatures ranging from -40°C to +95°C and ambient humidity levels of up to 95% relative humidity.

LiMAS allows to simultaneously emulate vibration loads across a broad frequency range in all translatory and rotational degrees of freedom, thus furnishing proof of stability, function and fatigue strength parameters for vibration-sensitive structural elements, components and systems under multi- axis excitation. In particular if one or more of the system’s natural frequencies are in the range of the excitation frequencies, matching frequency testing conditions are elementary.

Vibration tests can be used to secure earthquake resistance of technical power plant components, to investigate vibration response, to proof function and strength of wind energy facilities as well as of vehicle components within the sectors of engine, body and chassis. Vibration loads occurring during transport and operation are hereby emulated in the context of the test. In particular, plastics or fibre composite components affected by environmental conditions such as temperature and dampness can influence the vibration response, strength and life span under vibration load. Such combined load tests are increasingly sought by clients and can ideally be realised with LiMAS.

By commencing the LiMAS operation, IABG’s abilities in the area of multi-axis vibration testing are significantly extended, allowing for an expansion of the successful test services to new market segments. The experimental services are supplemented by material and damage analyses as well as by calculative analyses. As strategic development partner IABG was already able to win various customers when securing components and systems under vibration load, not least since it offers highly aggregated total services within the test and simulation sector.
