Space Day is an opportunity for industrial enterprises, research institutes, universities, observatories and planetaria to inform the general public of the uses and the latest developments in space flight technology.
IABG is once more opening its doors for the occasion. You can find out about our unique tests and services in the business fields of aeronautics and space on
Saturday 18th September 2004
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We will take you through our Space Test Centre. At a total of 9 stations you will discover what rockets, satellites and other space structures must be able to withstand without damage before they are sent into orbit to carry out their mission. Examples of these structures are the “CryoSat” satellite or various solar panels of other satellites.
Other industries use the knowledge gained from these demanding tests and place the qualification of their technical products in our hands. This means that you will not only experience “space flight”, but also see everyday objects like a snowboard being thoroughly shaken by a “Shaker” or the electromagnetic properties of a mobile phone being tested in our EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) lab. You can see the effects of radiation on a computer monitor and learn how we interpret the results and where they are applicable.
Aeronautics enthusiasts will really get their money’s worth in the technical analysis hangar. There you will find the Do728, a prototype of a modern RegionalJet, as well as the Tornado, an example of military aircraft. Both planes will be subjected to our structural tests. The Do728 will undergo a static test and the Tornado a dynamic test. Our experts will be happy to explain exactly what this means.
Refreshments will also be provided at reasonable, family-oriented prices. For those who do not wish to while away waiting time with snacks, coffee or cake, we have informative films (Airbus A340, Space Test Centre, Archimedes), or our slide-show on the new Airbus A380. Or you can spend the time previewing what’s ahead from our Homepage in the Internet café.
The tour of the test centre lasts approximately 1 hour and the tour of the aeronautics section approximately 30 minutes.
We are sure that we have created another interesting programme for you again this year and we are confident that we can compete with the “Wiesn-Einzug“ parade which is taking place at the same time.
We look forward to seeing you there!
