Components and structures for aviation or rail transportation often experience high mechanical loads - not least due to special events such as bird strikes or vandalism. Our Competence Center Protection, Impact and High Risk Testing at IABG near Paderborn focuses on testing system safety in the event of such incidents. The structural integrity of the components is tested under the highest loads in tests in accordance with common standards from both the aviation and rail industries, as well as customer-specific requirements.
Together we develop the right test setup for your application. We are also happy to realize special setups for you that are far removed from existing test standards or implement large test setups.
In order to give you a detailed insight into the component behavior during the tests, we use a wide range of measurement methods such as high-speed diagnostics, strain, acceleration or force measurement as well as image correlation methods.
Our metrology methods include the use of high-speed video from multiple perspectives to provide a detailed visual representation of your tests. We use strain gages and accelerometers to provide a precise representation of the deformation of the component.
Using laser triangulators and image correlation techniques, we can measure component displacements and deformations to evaluate the performance and durability of your products. Our force measurement and pressure measurement provide further insight into the resistance of your products under different conditions.
For suitable materials, we can use ultrasound and eddy current techniques to enable even deeper analysis. We also have the ability to specifically adjust the flight attitude of the projectile to create a realistic and accurate test environment.
