Test Bench
IABG operates two high-performance cylinder head test benches capable of reproducing realistic thermal cyclic loads in the combustion chamber roof. At the core of both systems are burner units equipped with six individually controlled propane-oxygen burners. These enable high-power testing in continuous operation across a wide range of cylinder head sizes.
The test specimen is mounted on a flow-optimized crankcase substitute, which simulates the coolant conditions of a fired engine using computer-assisted methods. Two separate coolant circuits with selectable temperatures allow for individually tailored cooling cycles.
The open design permits inspections during ongoing tests with minimal interruptions. An integrated camera system automatically detects cracks and documents their progression in real time.
