Competence Center Railway Technology goes into operation

IABG opens its centre for system and component testing for the railway industry in Dresden. The focus is on safeguarding operational stability. IABG thus complements its test spectrum and expands its portfolio in the field of sustainable mobility.

IABG has established a new competence centre with comprehensive qualification options in the field of railway technology at its Dresden site. With accreditation in accordance with DIN EN ISO 17025, the company fulfils all the requirements for putting the new test facilities at the service of customers.

The new capacities will be used for testing the operational stability of systems and components, especially for wagon technology. For this purpose, 12 bogie and 2 wagon body test benches as well as 16 component test stations are available on an area of 5,000 m². Oversized test objects can be delivered directly via the adjacent tarmac.

While mechanical testing has always been one of IABG's core competencies, innovative approaches are being pursued in the area of test evaluation and optimisation. The use of artificial intelligence plays an important role here. In the future, newly developed algorithms will support the evaluation of test data, but also the prediction of the service life of systems and components. Another focus is on safeguarding digital and networked systems. These must be tested and hardened both in terms of their functional reliability (safety) and their resistance to cyber attacks (security). Here, IABG draws on the knowledge and experience of its other business units as well as its own innovation centre. Close cooperation with experts from the Predictive Modeling and Decision Support department, for example, is the key to an optimized result.

The investments in the Rail Technology Competence Centre reflect the demand for sustainable, climate-friendly mobility, which can hardly succeed without modernising rail transport. Further components of the mobility turnaround lie in innovative solutions for drive systems (electromobility, hydrogen, fuel cells) as well as for the storage of energy - topics that IABG is working on intensively.
